Sint Maarten - Trip Reports

The Summit

Stayed at this resort twice (two one night layovers) on a business trip to Saba ands St. Eustatius in late July 06. This hotel has several advantages for an overnight stay. It's close to the airport (only a US$8 cab ride from the airport), its in walking distance to several restaurants located by the casino just below the medical school, and has good proximity (15 minutes or so) to Cupecoy and Maho beaches. It is close to the Atlantis casino for those looking for gambling. There is some shopping at Maho Beach which is a 20-30 minute walk from The Summit. In low-season, it is also very reasonable (US$80/night) which is approximately half-price any comparable hotel on the island. I found the best deal through Expedia. Front office staff are friendly and accommodating. The only real downside are the tired rooms which haven't seen any sprucing up in the five years I've been going to this hotel. Other minor annoyances are TV's in room are often without the remote!, no safe in room but available in the front office free-of-charge, the on-site restaurant often is not open at night (but this was summer - it may be different in the high season), and of course no beach close-by.

Thanks to Gord for this trip report ...
