We recently visited Ambergris Caye, Belize, in February 2004, and had a fabulous time. It was our first time here and won't be our last.
Unlike other Caribbean Islands we have visited, the people were warm and friendly and appreciated our tourist dollars.
We stayed at the Sunbreeze Hotel and were very happy with our room, the food at the restaurant, and the people that worked there. They would always greet us with a smile and a warm hello. Our room was always clean, the maid service was very prompt, and our room was very large. Something we enjoyed due to all our underwater camera gear and dive equipment. The bar service was great and when you visit ask for a drink called a Horny Monkey...it was fabulous!!!!
We used Amigos Del Mar and Ramon's Village for our SCUBA diving and snorkeling trips. Both places were excellent. We used Amigos for the long trips to the Blue Hole and the Turneffe Atoll and Ramon's for the shorter daily dives. Amigo's even arranged a night dive! We would not recommend the dive shop (Aqua Divers) with the Sunbreeze Hotel. There boats and equipment didn't appear to be the best.
We also did an all day snorkel trip aboard the Winnie Estelle, a 60' trade ship that had been restored. It was a great time! I would highly recommend that trip too.
All in all we were very happy with all the choices we made for our trip to Belize
Thanks to Norm & Jo for this trip report ...
