Talk about relaxed! We arrived early on Monday morning on Jost van Dyke via water taxi from Tortola. No taxis at the dock in Great Harbour so we made the (hot) six or seven minute walk to Sea Crest Inn at the East end of the harbour. Our short walk passed by some five or six bars and restaurants which is curious for an island of 240 people. The Sea Crest was situated on top of a hill with great views across the harbour.
This is a small apartment-type hotel run by Ivy. The room we had was fully equipped with fridge, stove, cable TV, private bathroom and balcony. Great room considering price and location.
Jost van Dyke seriously caters to yachters and day-trippers from Tortola, St. Thomas and other Virgin islands. Many of them flock to Foxy's and the Soggy Dollar on White Bay Beach. Other restaurants we also enjoyed were Corsairs (although lunch was expensive), Sidney's (Little Harbour - excellent lobster with friendly service) but Foxy's was hard to beat (try the $25 buffet on Thursday and Friday nights), Ivan's on White Bay beach.
On island things that mustn't be missed are White Bay Beach, the bubbly pool on the east end of the island and Little Harbour for lunch at Sidney's.
Conclusion: Sea Crest Inn is good value in a great location. White Bay beach is one of the best in the Caribbean. For those looking to party or just escape from it all, Jost van Dyke is the place. Walk whenever you can, taxis are extremely expensive.
Thanks to Gord for this trip report ...
