Just got back from a great stay in the Dominican Republic. Friends of
mine had told me about a super place they had stayed in last year in
the center of the country at the foot of a Dominican mountain range.
Rancho Wendy is located about 7 miles outside of the city of Bonao in
a little village called Los Quemados. Originally I was going to stay
two weeks but ended up hanging out for two months. The best part was
it only cost me $250.00 for the month. I had a comfortable room with
private bath and use of a cooking house. The place is on five
beautiful acres with a stream running through it, it actually runs
right by your bedroom window!
I love to walk and hike and this place had it in spades. There was a
huge variety of places to hike, with lots of different levels of
difficulty. You can choose to walk up to waterfalls, tropical rain
forests, and endless views.
This part of the Dominican Republic reminded me of Mexico 20 years
ago. It really feels like your going back in time as you wander
through villages of smiling locals where chickens and pigs roam free.
The peso has devalued over fifty percent in the last year so things
are very reasonable for foreigners. Folks forget Mexico and Costa
Rica, try the Dominican Republic!
Thanks to Joe for this trip report ...
