Used American Airlines from San Juan. Interestingly, 10 people bumped prior to
flight, and only one flight per day so they had to wait 24 hours in San Juan.
We flew with 10 empty seats, flight attendants gave reason for bumping as
"overweight". Perhaps the ATR is not able to fullfill its design criteria? Or
was this because of the distance between PR and Grenada being close to the
range limit for this plane?
Stayed at Grenada Grand, former Renaissance. A lot of recent renovations, for
example a nice lagoon style pool with a swim-up bar. Room was OK, the
bathroom had new fixtures, new wall and floor tile. Very clean, and
housekeeping was doing a good job.
27" remote control TVs promised on the website no where to be seen. I guess
that's further down the road.
Out front, a 9 hole par 3 course, looked nice but I never got around to trying
it out.
Also grocery store across the street very conveniently located. Stocked upon
bottled water.
The Grand Anse beach is coming back nicely. From the Grand towards town, its
in great shape. Towards the Spice Island, there is a gap at the ruins of the
Cotbam restaurant, and beyond there the beach returns. Its fine in front of
the Spice Island hotel itself.
The gov. built a Vendors Market for the local crafts about 100 yards up the
beach from the Grand. And most of the vendors stick pretty close to it. Only
three or four per day ever came by my beach chair. This was a big difference
from my last visit 2 years ago. Great idea. I did visit the Vendors everyday
to buy some Caribe beer. They sell it a lot cheaper than the hotel. ( The
water taxis now drop off the cruise ship visitors on the beach in front of the
vendors area. This is probably why the program works as well as it does.)
By the way, the Grenadian people are very warm and friendly, and like to talk.
I spent a lot of time just meeting people, passing the time with good
conversation.
In all. I spent 4 nights there, and most of it on the beach. (This was the
weekend of the annual sailing regatta).
Thanks to JT for this trip report ...
