Just got back from 2 weeks at the Barcelo Palma Real outside of La Ceiba. The hotel (Garden section) was a nice quiet place as most of the entertainment was at the Beach section. Excellent nightly performances were held at the theater located half way between the sections.
Unfortunately it rained for the entire 2 weeks, but we still enjoyed ourselves.
Many people at the Beach & a few at the Garden became very sick & 4 doctors were flown in by helicopter to treat them. It seems to me that what ever it was was located at the Beach section of the hotel. We only ate at the Garden section and were fine.
We were disappointed to find that the 90 minute transfer from airport to the hotel is in reality a 3 hour drive. The staff were very accomodating & most spoke English.
The highlight of our trip was a visit to the Mayan ruins at Copan accompanied by Rapheal our very knowlegeable tour guide from Explore Honduras . Well worth the 5 hour bus ride. The Camino Maya hotel in Copan was quite comfortable and clean, located right on the central square. Try the Tulkum restaurant right down the street for excellent Honduran food cooked outdoors on a bellow powered charcoal grill with great ambience.I would like to return some day when the SUN shines in Honduras.
Thanks to Jim for this trip report ...
