Mexico - Trip Reports

Camino Real and Puerto Vallarta

Thought I'd post up a few comments on my trip to PV for those who are contemplating a visit - My wife and I (and some friends) got back a few days ago.

We stayed at Camino Real - a little generic as these sorts of resorts go, but the service, food, and grounds were all first rate. Terrific beach that is basically set alone in its own cove, which keeps beach traffic and vendors to a minimum. A few miles (45 pesos) cab ride to downtown. We would definitely stay again.

Ate at Trio- high end but absolutely first rate food and service in a beautiful room
- La Palapa - Fantastic setting, very romantic, right on the beach, but the prices are very high, the food good but not great, the service indifferent.
- Daquari Dicks - Great place, also right on the beach. Wonderful food (try the shrimp or lobster tacos) terrific drinks (margaritis are the best we had in PV, they also do this really cool flaming coffee drink), friendly laid back staff.

Thinking about snorkeling, fishing, or just a boat ride along the coast - you have got to try Tango Rentals, owned and operated by Agustin Bas and his lovely girlfriend from Scotland(!), Marjorie. We did a private boat tour with them that encompassed snorkeling, boating along the coast and resting on a secluded beach, we even walked through their town of Boca - it was a terrific time and really gave us a sense of Mexico outside of the tourist stuff that is all that most visitors typically experience. They have a great website at www.casatango.com - check it out!

Last but not least are the people of Puerto Vallarta - they are friendly accommodating and courteous - most of them speak enough English for you to effectively communicate with them- they are rightfully proud of their city, it really is a te rrific place- safe, clean, and a lot of fun!

Oh, and contrary to my wife's fears, no one got sick...Buenos Dias!

Thanks to Mike for this trip report ...
