My wife and I returned from Barcelo Playa Blanca yesterday. Overall, we enjoyed the week we had there. Our room was one of the best in the '700 block building, overlooking the beach and the activity pool.
Weather was hot and sunny every day, but you had to be careful about going in the ocean. I was stung by a jelly fish, and another person stung by a stingray, requiring a needle. Best to use the pools to swim in. Gets windy in the afternoon, so sand can blow around on beach. Ample umbrellas, but you still need to stake out a chair by the pools if you want shade
Service good, food of a good variety, drinks in rediculously small cups, so bring a larger thermal mug if you want to avoid frequent bar runs. Buffet and one ala carte restaurant with steak and lobster on the menu.
Barcelo is up the beach from the established Royal Decameron, which is definitely a superior resort at this time, so compare prices between the two to determine vest value.
Resort is remote from airport, so plan on 2.5-3 hours travel time, not 90 minutes that is advertised. Same with excursions. However, there is a town called Panome about 15 minutes away by taxi that has cheap cheap shopping and a cigar factory.
Thanks to Bill for this trip report ...
