I just recently visited the lovely and beautiful island of Puerto Rico. This time I have the opportunity to stay in the central region of the island. We stayed at the Parador Hacienda Gripinas - a former coffee plantation. The hacienda, located near highest mountain of the island (Cerro Puntas), is a perfect place for those are tired of tourist heavens (San Juan) with its congetested and overcrowded fast tract living. The setting was picture perfect with lush vegetation surrounding the hacienda and the views of the mountains.
I recommend anyone visting Puerto Rico to take advantage of what these paradores have to offer. From Hacienda Gripinas we were able to see the other side of Puerto Rico. Ponce with its neo-classical architecture, San German with its small provincial atmsophere, Cabo Rojo and its beautiful beaches, Mayaguez and its historic zone, the Camuy Caves - the third largest underground cave system of the world, Arecibo, etc. Hacienda Gripinas have an exquisite local menu as well as ome international dishes. I do thinsk that venturing outside of San Juan, showed me what Puerto Rico Have to offer to those seeking venturing off the beaten path.
Thanks to Hixem Manuel for this trip report ...
