I had a one night stay in early March 2004 in this budget hotel in St. Martin.
The one advantage of this hotel is its location. Situated right in the heart of the town of Marigot it's close to shopping and the marina. However, the hotel is definitely a one and a half star. Rooms are dull, no art on the walls, my room had little natural light. Room facilities ok, private bath and TV. No safe provided and all in all quite expensive (US$120+). Rooms are priced in Euros. No restaurant and no bar available. Mediocre buffet breakfast offered in the price.
Marigot is strangely quiet at night. The short walk from the hotel to the marina (where there are numerous great restaurants) is eerie. The only people I saw were gendarmerie and security staff, suggesting that safety might be an issue here. During the day, the town is busy with locals and tourists scouting out the many upscale shops.
Bottom line on Royal Louisiana - not recommended - although it may be difficult to beat the price on this expensive island for a budget/two star hotel.
Thanks to Gord for this trip report ...
