Trinidad & Tobago - Trip Reports

Island of Tobago

I want to tell everyone how wonderful Tobago is, but then if everyone knows they will all go and maybe it will loose its charm. The people are so friendly, hi! to everyone you pass or goodnight in the evening. Yes, people do want to sell you things, souvenirs, boat rides to the reef, aloe vera, trips around the island,or to the rain forest. If you dont want to buy just smile and say no thanks, they wont hassle you, if you do want to buy enjoy the salesmanship, maybe barter a bit they will be your friend all holiday and look out for you.

I would recommend a rain forest tour with Harris McDonald the Store Bay Lifeguard, up at 5 am for a drive to the rain forest, wellington boots provided (sized up the day before)a good interesting walk through the forest, breakfast provided then onto Speyside for snorkling and then lunch at Jemma's Treehouse (try the breadfruit pie - its a cheesy dish) follow this with a trip to the Argyle Waterfall and a cool dip. A tour of the island is included, along with Bob Marley music and Calypso. The birds are everywhere on the island, tiny hummingbirds, beautiful coloured birds, pelicans everything.

We stayed in Crown Point and along with Store Bay it is the tourist area(the rest of the island is not really touristified) but even near the airport the hotels dont get too much aircraft noise as there arent too many flights. But dont make the mistake we made and stay at the Tropikist Hotel, this is the worst hotel in the world, they train the staff to be rude and the directors swear at the guests, we had to call the police to lodge a complaint about the owners behaviour avoid this hotel and you will have a stress free holiday in a perfect place.

Thanks to Margaret for this trip report ...
