Antigua and Barbuda - Trip Reports

Cocobay Resort

Well I am back from my Honeymoon in Antigua, and what can I say it is fantastic, we stayed at Cocobay I have done a short write up for those of you who are thinking of staying there or havent made up your mind yet.

Arrival.

We arrived at Cocobay at 4:00 in the afternoon on a wednesday, as soon as we walked in the place we were offered a glass of Rum Punch from one of the receptionists, they were all there to great us, there is three of them Elizabeth, Tameka and Abazhena (or something like that everyone called her Abbey). Each one of them are so lovely and were happy to help us with any queries or problems we might have. We didnt get to meet O'Neil as he was on Vacation. Anyway, we checked in and was helped to our rooms with our bags etc. Wow the cottages are fantastic, they are beautiful with fantastic veiws of the sea and beach, they were spotless no complaints there we even had a bottle of champagne in the room which was nice aswell.

You have to book in for your evening meal in abook thats on the reception for you to choose which time you want to eat, which we kept forgetting to do and ended up eating at 9pm most nights but that wasnt a problem the food was worth the wait, I could not fault the food whatsoever if you are up for trying anything you will really like the food, breakfast was always a buffet type you know choose your own and there was always a cook offering to cook you eggs etc. Lunch was pretty much the same aswell, choose your own but everyday was different and everyday we enjoyed what we had.

Cocobay is pretty much a very quiet resort definately a resort to go to if you want to chill out completely, they have a few nights of entertainment on a thursday night they have two men in one on a guitar and one playing the maracas they are really good and very amusing just listen out for the bamboo song that will give you a giggle. We didnt see any of the other entertainers as we went out most nights to Jolly Harbour there is casino there which is nice BUT one word of advice do not play the RAINBOW GAME only if you willing to lose your life savings anyway!

The Beach was fantastic, very quiet only the people from the resort are on the beach, you do occasionally get pestered by people trying to sell you things like jewellery and cd's and boat trips but they are really nice people and if you say no they are fine about it, also what you have to remember is that Tourisim is the Islands only form of income now as we were told by one of our tour guides on the way to Shirley Heights which is a must for everyone do go on this trip it is on a Sunday, Shirely Heights is a place to get the most fantastic veiws of the sunsetting and of the English Harbour, they have a steel band on then a reggae band they also have a BBQ there you will not sit down you will be dancing the night away it is super.

All in all I have to say that antigua and Cocobay is the most beautiful place on earth the locals are lovely, polite and friendly, you can not fault the place at all, (my personal opinion)

There are a couple of bad things but nothing that would spoil or really even bother you that much, There are tiny ants in the bathroom but i just washed them away with water in the morning not a problem they arent dangerous or anything.

If you go into St Johns you do get nearly everyone asking you if you want a Taxi which happened everytime you walked around a corner but there again you just get on with it and say no thanks you and they are fine that's it.

Thanks to Karen for this trip report ...
