Antigua and Barbuda - Trip Reports

Galley Bay

Just back from our second visit to Galley Bay from the UK.

STAFF: There appears to be some new staff since last year and although a bit quite they seem to be settling in well. The senior staff (Michael, Ernestine and Althea) Made us feel welcome and made our visit special. I did hear some people stating that the stff were a bit rude but I feel it is unjustified if you try to treat them as SLAVES!! They are more than happy to chat and have share a joke. Even the cleaners and ground staff would stop and chat. Make a point of saying good morning and their face will light up.

FOOD & Drink: This year we found the Garguan restaurant excellent. Although the menu does not change, we enjoyed a number of visits there lunchtimes (more snack type foods than the main one) and evenings (al-acarte). Ther are a few mossies about at night so ask for the Citronella candles to be lit. The Sea Grape was still good although we found the service not quite as good when Michael was not on duty. The wine did not seem to be as free flowing as last year but not a problem. The barbecue evening was a bit dissapointing with small pieces of meat (but it may be us not used to keep going back for more as some of the U.S guests did).

ACCOMODATION: We were lucky in that we got a upgrade to a superior room (79) which was superb. It would seem that they have been replacing some of the air-con units which are much quiter and more effecient than last year. They cleaners were great and plenty of towels for the bathroom and beach every day.

BEACH: Never crowded, never noisy. We were unlucky that the sea was very rough this year due to Isabelle. The red flags were up for a few days. We were dumped on the beach by one wave and my wife twisted her knee. One other guest ended up with a broken ankle so watch the waves!! It is not normally that bad and last year, same time, was like a mill pond.

Finally A GREAT PLACE AND WE WILL BE BACK!!!!

Thanks to Bill for this trip report ...
