The Bahamas - Trip Reports

Grand Bahama Island

I just got back from GBI and had a great time!!! The food, people, weather and service was awesome!!! Thanks so much everyone, for your information and good advice.

We took Genie's Island Tour which i highly recommend!! Informative and funny. They take to you to Garden of the groves, rum tasting (mmh mmm!!), to a local fruit market and a beautiful section of Taino beach for $30 or so. And throughout the whole ride, you get a great commentary from the driver. It's a really great way to learn about the culture and history of the island.

We also went kayaking at paradise cove and saw eagle rays and other beautiful fish and corals. We stayed part of the time at Paradise Cove, and I highly recommend it. You get a cottage on the beach, and I mean on the beach ( we had a 1 bedroom for $100/night). It's run by Barry Smith and his family and they are wonderful! The sunset is beautiful and you literally get the beach all to yourself. And you can snorkel right off the beach at Deadman's Reef. The water is so clear and fairly shallow at most parts so you never have to worry about your kids being overwhelmed.

The only casino on the island is the Casino at the Bahamia (near International Bazaar) and it was fairly empty when we were there. Don't use the ATM there. it broke down when I was using it and debited my account $300 that I never got!!! There is an ATM right in Our Lucaya as well as in the Port Lucaya marketplace that i would suggest.

Ferry House was the best restaurant we ate at. The food was impeccable and service was great. We were the only ones in the restaurant for lunch that day. The island is hurting in terms of tourism. The view of the bay is gorgeous and food is just beautifully prepared!! Sorry for making this long, but I want to give back something to this board, which is a great place to learn. Thanks so much everyone!!!!!

Thanks to Suan for this trip report ...
