The Bahamas - Trip Reports

Grand Bahama Island

Hey everyone! Well, I'm back in Canada and very sad about that. I hate leaving GBI! I've only been there 3 times, but hey, ya gotta love it! I was seriously tempted to go to the Irish pub to see if I could get a job there for the rest of the summer (since I have the red hair and freckles!). Anyway, we had a great time in Freeport (were there from June 26-July 5).

It was the first time for my brother and sister (ages 16 and 14) and they really enjoyed themselves. My brother got golf lessons at Buch Harman school of golf and was very pleased with that. He's out right now correcting his posture and fixing his mistakes to see if it makes a difference on his game! My sister got braids done by Kim (pregnant lady at International Bazzar..really nice). She did a great job as my sister received many compliments from the locals. I went on the booze cruise and had a blast, as always!

Also went to Barbary Beach a couple of times while the snorkeling people were there. So funny to watch them playing volleyball! Went to the bonfire at Pirate's of the Bahamas and had free drinks and of course, free pictures.

Had an American Flag on the 4th of July (blue caracao, pina colada, and strawberry daquari, mmm). Besides that though, didn't do very many touristy things..I like to relax and enjoy the island and the people more than anything. Went to the square at Port Lucaya a few times. Had to drag my sister up to dance with me!! Man, those kids can really dance..I guess they start training them early there, hahah! I swear, they could have given some of the white guys a few tips, LOL!

Went to the Ruby Swiss one night Kokonuts one night and this place called Simply Native or something like that for lunch one day. It's out by the car rental places and the airport. MMMMMM...I had curry chicken, peas and rice, potato salad, and plantain. Serving was huge (couldn't finish it in one sitting) and cheap..$18 for 2 of us and 2 drinks. Stayed at Port Lucaya Resort and Yacht Club. Nice place, but didn't really get a chance to check it out besides the room. Nice being that close to Port Lucaya Marketplace though.

Overall, we had good weather. It rained I think maybe twice or three times. But when it rained, IT RAINED!! Man, that's crazy..the streets were flooded and everything..my mom was freaking driving through the streets, hahah! I didn't get enough dancing in though..that's my big dissappointment. Oh well, maybe next time.

Anyway, I think I've gone on long enough. Hopefully I'll be able to go back soon. I'm looking into teaching there (I know, I know, it's not easy..it took my aunt 2 years to get a nursing job there), but hey, it seems like a great place to live!

Thanks to Andrea for this trip report ...
