The Bahamas - Trip Reports

Island of Grand Bahama & Restaurants

The weather was exceptionally good for the Christmas season. We were there for 23 days and only had 3 days of cloudy weather and only had rain one afternoon. We visited with Les and Janice for New Years Eve and enjoyed the Fireworks.

We saw Diane again and met Renee O for the first time.

We ate at several restaurants, some good, some bad.

We ate at Giovanis twice. It was excellent as usual. The Conch Chowder and Cracked conch were excellent and the Chicken Marsala was great.

We tried a new restaurant this trip and found it to be our favorite. It is the China cafe across from Giovanis. Their food was excellent and their prices are great. They have lunch specials for $4.25 and dinner for $9.00. this dies not include drinks, we had water. We ate there 3 times. We tried Crab Rangoon apetizers (fabulous), Curr Chicken, Shrimp in Lobster sauce, and Sweet & sour Shrimp. Every meal was excellent and the service was good.

We ate lunch at Club Caribe twice. It was excellent. They have expanded the size of the deck and added tables. It was busy every time we were there. I had Conch Chowder and Conch Fritters. Lynda had Shrimp Scampi. The service was prompt and the food good. We were impressed with the new management.

We ate at Pier 1 for the shark feeding. It was a total disappointment. We have eaten there 4-5 times, have not been happy with their food, and had decided to not eat there again, but this trip convinced us. Lynda's mother and sister were visiting and her sister wanted to see the shark feeding. We each had a Bahama Mama ($8 each). We ordered our food and it took an hour to get our meal. The food was terrible. Lynda's mother order grouper. It was so tough she had to use a knif to cut it. She complained to the waitress and she offered to replace it with another meal. she ordered Coconut Shrim, and after waiting 15 minutes, the told her that they were out of coconut shrimp. By that time, everyone else had finished their meal, so she told them to forget it. Then they Charged her $6 for the baked potatoe that came with her meal that she didn't eat. we asked to speak to the Manager. He was a real A**. She has lived in Florida for 15 years and eats grouper regularly. She told him of the quality of his food and he b We ate at The Stoned Crab. It was excellent. The Seafood platter and the Crab platter were great.

We just cruised the canals and the beaches in our boat and had a wonderful time.

We went snorkeling to Petersons Cay and it was great, as usual.

I went fishing 4-5 times and caught a lot of nice fish. I caught Grunts, Porgys, Triggerfish, Black Durgeons and yellow snappers. I caugt a 20 inch Dog snapper and a 20 inch triggerfish, they were fun. Les and I went out to look for some lobsters and we hit gold. We were out for 2.5 hours and got 30 lobsters. I can't take and credit for the success, Les is the Master. But we did have fun.

We had a wonderful 23 days. We cant wait for our next trip in May.

Thanks to Cal for this trip report ...
