Just returned from Breezes Jibacoa where my wife and I stayed from Jan10/01 to Jan17/01. We had a wonderful time. It was our first trip to Cuba but we intend on returning. The resort was clean and failrly new ( two years). The weather cooperated as well. There was never a wait for beach chairs and the beach itself was clean with good sand.
Reports of an oil spill earlier in the year are true, but the beach has been cleaned up. The only result is that the bottom of your feet will get blotches of tar like substances on your soles. Easily cleaned off, a result I assume of oil that settled out and is in, or under the sand. Not a big problem.
The neighbourhood of the resort can be walked in saftey and my wife and I went for a hike on the local roads each morning after breakfast. The staff is competent and friendly, though as might be expected, some are a little difficult to understand if you dont talk Spanish. No big deal and not even an inconvenience.
The only complaint, and its a minor one is that the food was not always hot. The heating tables didnt perform very well. There was however a wide selection of food. The once a week reserved meal at the restauraunt called Martinos was excellent. We enjoyed our selves and there are a wide variety of activities, a wonderful pool, a games room, five bars, etc.
Thanks to Jack for this trip report ...
