We have just returned from the most fantastic 2 week holiday at the Iberostar Daiquiri.(4th -18th April 2004)
Where do we begin? We travelled with our two lads aged 13 & 11.
Check in was efficient and we where struck by the relaxed atmosphere from the first minute.
Our initial reaction to the room was NOT positive. They are relatively basic and a little cramped for 4 people (next time separate rooms for the kids) however we agreed this very minor irritation wouldn’t spoil the holiday. After all we were to spend very little of our time in the room. Despite other comments I thought the beds were comfortable and we asked for extra pillows which made things perfectly acceptable.
From then on we enjoyed every second. The beach is fantastic, the water warm and turquoise. Idyllic The pool never seemed crowded despite the hotel being full for part of the holiday. No shortage of sun-beds either on the beach or poolside. As with most places people use towels to reserve them but when in Rome....
The weather was superb for the first 10 days or so. Light breezes off the sea but cloudless skies. A little cloudier and with more wind for the last few days. The grounds are remarkable. Little by way of rain for long spells throughout the year but the flowers and shrubs are picturesque.
The fountains and ponds give a relaxing feel to the place.
Food. Some complain about the choice? Unbelievable! Can be a little different from home but isn't that part of the holiday experience? There is more than enough choice at every meal time to satisfy the most critical of palates. The Cuban and Mexican Al A Carte are superb although we did find the service in the Mexican a little rushed, both the boys enjoyed these too and they are not the most adventurous of eaters.
Entertainment. Personally I thought a couple of the audience participation parts were a little boring and tired however some of the shows wouldn’t be out of place In London or New York. The Movie Show was fantastic and you would pay a lot of money to see something as innovative and entertaining as The Black Theatre. Do not miss these.
We utilised the kayaks and the Hobbie Cats at the beach(free of charge) and the only trip we took was the day trip to Jamaica. Had to leave the hotel at 5.30am but well worth it. Dunns River Falls were a fantastic experience and Montego Bay was only an hours flight away. Jamaica had it's own atmosphere and we where pleased to have visited for what was a wonderful day.
The lobby bar was an ideal place for pre dinner drinks. So peaceful. The beach bar is excellent for informal lunch and the pool bar does great burgers/hot dogs from 4pm. Despite the above there was ONE thing that made our holiday so memorable. It stood out more than anything.
The people. The staff are the most genuine, contented and happiest people I have ever met. They cannot do enough for you. They are fun to talk to. Don’t think these people are dumb waiters. Most are highly educated people who speak 3,4 or even 5 languages fluently. They have not been spoilt by the stresses and materialistic ways of most of the guests. They are just genuinely pleasant people.
Having mentioned the staff, we also met some wonderful fellow guests. We may have only known them for a few days but they are, and will remain friends. When you have read this review do something for yourself.
Book your holiday to the Iberostar Daiquiri. Now!!
