The beach at Jibacoa was quite nice as were the reefs if you like snorkelling. There are 2 other
resorts within about 1/2 a mile and a vacation spot for Cubans right next to the resort (you really appreciate what you have when you see these tin boxes...and they are considered a very big treat). The
beach is pretty well virgin and there seems to be no build up of sea weed etc. What makes it very
beautiful is the mountains right behind the resort which are probably at least as high as the Hamilton
escarpment++ (about 200 feet).
The accommodations are quite nice, the grounds gorgeous but the food
needs a bit more variety to be a 4+-5 star resort. Evidentally the main chef had not arrived yet but
they are definately trying. There are 2 other restaurants (only 1 was open when we were there) and the
liquor supply was the best we have ever seen at a resort. They even had Crown Royal rye and Baileys Irish
Cream among the many many others.
The pool area is very quiet as there is no music and not in pool
activities. Everyone was complaining about this and it hopefully will change. This is a superclubs not
an old folks home. I would probably wait till October or November to go if you have to pay full brochure
but as we got this for only $790 p.p., it was a great deal. All the buildings were built but only about
1/2 were finished inside. You have to meet Cleveland. He was the most congenial Resort managers I have
ever met, always asking you if everything is ok, mixing with the guests etc. An excellent manager.
Thanks to Bill for this trip report ...
