The Discovery Coast's windsurfing and kiteboarding mecca is Cabarete, just a 15-minute drive east from Sosua. Both the Professional Windsurfing Association and the Professional Kite Riders Association rank Cabarete tops among the laeding destinations for the sport, attracting amateur and professional competitors from around the world, especially to summer time tournaments, when the waves are best. and an annual Cabarete Race Week brings the best of amateur competitors from around the world in mid June, when the waves and winds are best.
