The RIU Tropical Bay was an absolutely gorgeous property. It totally exceeded my expectations especially after the horrible ride from the Airport.
Room
The room consisted of two double beds joined together with ample space to get around. The marbled bathroom was very spacious and came equipped with a very hot blow dryer. The room also comes
equipped with a 19' TV and a bar which is stocked every other day or upon request (the room does not have an iron). The housekeeper did an awesome job of cleaning our room and always left flowers and animal creations done with the towels.
Food
There were four restaurants in the hotel. For dinner your choices are The Negril and Sir Anthony's. A reservation is required for Sir Anthony's. You have two choices for dinner times (6:30 or 8:30 if you travel in the summer months
your choices are 7:00 and 9:00). Upon arrival you are assigned a dinning time (of your choice) and a seat number. These will be yours for the duration
of the trip although you are free to change either at any time.
The food itself was interesting to say the least. If you are looking for Jamaican dishes you won't find
any here. None the less the food was good. If you are vegetarian or don't eat beef or pork. You will probably
prefer to dine in the Pizzeria. They have vegetarian dishes which were very tasty.
Entertainment
The entertainment at the hotel is absolutely horrible. It consists of the staff members luring people on stage to entertain the guests. It really needs some work and was one of the few
things that I didn't like about the hotel. The hotel does have a club (i forgot the name). I went once and
people seemed to be having fun but the music was very similiar to what you would hear in the states, hence the
reason I didn't like it as much.
Overall
While the hotel property is very nice you don't get a feel of the Island. There is little to no Jamaican food or entertainment. This may be what you want, but for those who want a little
culture you have to supplement your trip with tours. I contacted ErrollFlynnTours and had a wonderful
tour that included Black River, YS Falls, Appleton Estates shopping in Negril and Ricks Cafe (this is a must). Without the tour I would not have enjoyed my trip as much. Feel free
to contact me if you have any questions at tbarne1@hotmail.com because I am sure that I left a lot of things out.
Thanks to Tandi for this trip report ...
