Recently spent a weekend in St. Barts at the Sunset Hotel. Great location in Gustavia, close to the marina, numerous restaurants, supermarket, exclusive shopping and some nightlife. It's walkable to pretty much everywhere in town.
Try Le Select bar on a Friday night for local music and ambience. This is probably also one of the most affordable places to eat…
This is probably the least expensive of all the hotels on the island. Price was 89 Euros/night for a room with TV, phone and private bathroom. Management extremely helpful and friendly. Continental breakfast available if required.
Great view over the marina and fabulous sunsets from the hotel verandah.
Rented a car (the most reasonable I could find from Beranger in Gustavia). Cost was 55 Euro fro the typical open-top Suzuki Samurai. Toured most of the island - this can be done easily in one day. Some of the highlights were Corossol, Point Salines (great beach but crowded on a Sunday) and Petit Cul de Sac. A car is essential - the island is too mountainous to think about walking or biking.
This is not a typical Caribbean island experience. Very chic, very expensive, very French, very sexy - lots of panache and style.
All in all, great weekend, highly recommended if you can afford it!
Thanks to Gord for this trip report ...
