Turks & Caicos Islands - Trip Reports

Diving & Island House - Grand Turk, Sands - Provo, Ocean Lodge, South Caicos

Flew London/Miami/Provo/Grand Turk on the same long day. American airlines managed to leave 1 case in Miami. Recovered after 2 days.

Island House, Grand Turk was great. Lovely apartment. Free loan of Suzuki jeep. No meals. Owner Colin could not have been more helpful. Drove my wife to the various "supermarkets" so she would know where to shop. Also pointed out local restaurant, Regal Beagle, which was cheap and very good.

Dived with Paul at Oasis who was excellent. Did trip to Gibbs Cay to hand feed the stingrays which was fun.

Good vis. Nice walls. Saw 3 dolphins on first dive. Lots of turtles, rays, etc. Paul had an affair with 2 groupers, including kissing on lips and cuddling. We all had a stroke or three. Nice easy diving.

Ocean Lodge, S. Caicos. A little dilapidated but a very warm welcome. Good food. Very quiet.

Excellent walls and vis. Mostly very easy diving with one notable exception. I don't want to embarass anyone so I will just say that I took my balloon along after that to be on the safe side!

Saw several sharks, eagle and sting rays, turtles and all the usual critters. Nice airplane wreck with a small green moray living in the wing space.

Sands, Provo. 5* condos. Reef 40 mins. boatride away and nothing special. Opportunity to dive W. Caicos but virtually a full day trip and expensive. Diving reputed to be no better than S.C. so didn't bother and got thoroughly bored.

Can recommend G.T. and S.T. Hope to return Feb. next year to see the migrating whales.

Thanks to Malcolm for this trip report ...
