Turks & Caicos Islands - Trip Reports

Allegro & Comfort Suites, Provo

Just got back from T&C yesterday. Our stay was extended 2 days due to the winter storm on the East Coast.

We stayed at the Allegro for 7 nights and Comfort Suites for 2.

I had ready some bad reports on Allegro, so I was relieved upon arrival. The property needs updating but is still very nice. The beach and pool were great. I had booked the ocean view category, and 2 days before arrival I called and requested Building 1, which wasn't in our category but I was hoping they wouldn't notice that. When we arrived I was told we were in Building 1. I went to the room and found out were on the first floor with no view due to the large sand dune blocking the view. I then requested another room, and they put us in Building 3, on the 3rd floor. This room had a great view. The only complaint about the room was the bathroom had a bad odor, my husband said it looks like they sprayed some type of acrylic to update the tub/tiles, and this was causing the odor. We kept the fan in the bathroom with the door closed at all times.

The food was good, not great but acceptable. Our meals at Caruso's and Papayas were okay, but we prefered the buffet. The entertainment was good and the activities staff gets an A for effort.

We dove with Caicos Adventures, and were thrilled with them and the diving. Less crowded and better dive sites than Dive Provo with a nicer boat at the same price.

When our flight was canceled due to the storm in the NOrtheast, Allegro wanted to charge us $135 per person/per night, so we switch to Comfort Suites at $118 per night per couple.

Comfort suites is across the street from the Beach, but they do have beach access and beach chairs. Our room here was very nice and clean and overlooked the pool.

We ate at the following restaurants outside of Allegro.

Tiki Hut: Wednesday night BBQ special with buckets of Corona's was delicious and pretty inexpensive. Great atmosphere too.

Baci: Italian, very good, prices were average for an upscale restaurant.

Hey Jose's: We went here to watch football on their big screen. Great pizza and wings.

Barefoot Cafe: Located in the Ports of Call, had great Burgers and Salads.

As for the weather, we had quite a few cloudy windy days (5 out of 10), which I believe was due to the Tropical Storm that passed through the Caribbean.

Thanks to Amy for this trip report ...
